A brief shake down report on the Honda Accord:
We recently wrapped up our summer trip to North Carolina, putting a little more than 1300 miles on the Accord. It's performing great so far, and we are really liking it.
We had one hiccup along the way, but it was resolved at the closest Honda dealership fairly quickly. About 300 miles in, the dash Christmas tree'd. No power steering, no cruise control, no collision avoidance, brake warning... etc. I immediately thought wheel speed sensors, because this is exact issue happened to our Passat a few times. After a quick visual inspection on the side of a highway exit, I saw no issues and drove it 50 miles (with no events) to Honda dealership in Rock Hill, South Carolina. We snuck in about an hour before they closed and the thankfully took it back. After about 30 minutes, the car was returned, with no known issues found. Warning lights were cleared and we were on our way. No events since then as well.
Fuel Report:
Not including at the start of the trip, we filled up a total of 3 times during our trip.
- On the way up, before we crossed the mountain (out of habit, it wasn't necessary)
- During our travels in and around the mountains of North Carolina and Virginia.
- The morning we left.
That last tank took us 527 miles, driving responsibly, but not too conservable, from far north west North Carolina to home in Jacksonville, Florida. We still hade two "bars" left of fuel.
Total economy over the 1300+ mile trip was 51.76 MPG. Factoring in the sustained 90ish MPH run (allegedly) to the Honda dealership to make it before they closed, climbing mountains, and "regular driving", we were really impressed with this fuel mileage.
